Partnership with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation

The DVR partnership has been extended for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.  The Network Board is working on developing further local partnerships based on available funding.  The following were accomplished during the fall of 2012:

A continuation of the partnership with Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery (FISH) supported four internships for youths with disabilities;
A new partnership with Village Theatre supported an employer assessment with a potential intern placement in the spring of 2013;

A new partnership with Issaquah Trophy and Awards supported an employer assessment with potential intern placement in the spring of 2013;
A Youth Job Skills Fair for 140 inmates at Echo Glen juvenile correctional facility was held on October 10 and 17, 2012;

Planning for a regional Youth Job Skills Fair scheduled for March 9, 2013 at Issaquah High School.

2011 Activities

 In the summer of 2011, the Family Policy Council partnered with the Washington State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation to bring Network outreach activities into alignment with DVR goals and missions.  The Issaquah Community Network enthusiastically endorsed this initiative and participated in three local DVR-funded outreach activities, all completed by December 15, 2011:

A Youth Job Skills Fair was held on November 12, 2011 through a partnership with the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce, the Issaquah Schools Foundation, the Issaquah School District, the Issaquah Youth Advisory Board, the Sammamish Youth Advisory Board, the Rotary Club of Issaquah and the Rotary Club of Sammamish.  The Job Skills Fair provided job search and interview skill-building, mentorships, and resources for local youth ages 16 to 24.  A summary report can be found here.

A partnership between Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery and AtWork! provided five internships for youths with disabilities during the busiest tourist season for the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery.  A summary report can be found here.

A partnership between the Network and Tiger Mountain Community High School provided support for mentors and partners advising students about job skills in a blended special education class.  Students actively participated in the planning and implementation of the grant, learning organizational and outreach skills in preparation for job placement.  A summary report can be found here.
